The project is a proposal for converting a prestigious 18th century Italian villa which was burned and looted in the nineties, into an exclusive Spa center. The park surrounding the villa will be restored while the outbuildings, also damaged and no longer in use, will be replaced by a 30 rooms hotel.
“Inspired by the splendor of ancient roman buildings, the project aims to re-create the sacred atmosphere of the thermae romanae, while providing the building with modern facilities.”
All the facades of the villa will be renovated and redecorated together with the main monumental stairs, whilst the slabs and internal walls will be removed and replaced by a system of funnel shaped elements which have both structural and functional purposes. At the ground floor, these elements taper as they go up, like truncated pyramids, while at the top floor they turn upside down forming an impluvium roof system typical of ancient roman dwellings (domus). On the main floor, the funnel shaped elements located at the ground and top floors are connected each other by vertical walls.
