Based on the belief that pre-existing building typologies and design approaches no longer provide adequate solution to contemporary demands and situations, we investigate new building types and more efficient design methods to deal with today’s challenges.
Our ultimate goal is to create spaces that are both highly functional and spiritually uplifting. We refrain from short-lived fashions and aspire to deliver timeless and environmentally conscious buildings.
INSPIRED BY NATURE
In recent years computer technology has given us the tools to analyze and simulate the complexity observed in nature and apply it to structural building shapes and urban organizational patterns. Parametric and generative design enabled architects to design and construct innovative buildings with more exacting qualitative and quantitative conditions.
We strive to combine the advantages of a form-finding approach with a spiritual understanding of architecture and materials which goes deeper than simply constructing buildings.
CONSISTENCY THROUGH REPETITION
Everything in nature is unique but at the same time can be classified as they each belong to specific categories. A tree is a tree, but all trees are different. In a similar way all Gothic cathedrals are different from one another yet they were all built following the exact same principles. The principle of evolution is that a process is repeated to achieve a new outcome; doing the same thing over and over again, but differently.
Today, in our field, this rigor has been lost.
In order to liberate the design process from the burden of having to re-invent everything from scratch every time we start a new project, and in order to create a more long-term and consistent vision, our practice focuses on developing a vocabulary of new architectural and structural models that are able to generate whole series of projects. These models should be seen as sets of organizational and compositional principles characterized in their very core by an intrinsic clarity, that can be transferred from one project to another at different scales and in different situations, yet never resulting in identical outcomes.
HOW WE WORK
We operate as a network practice, setting-up multidisciplinary teams from an early stage in order to create an efficient and integrated working process.
During years of international experience working on major ground-breaking buildings and through prolonged collaboration with international leading consultants, partners and advisors across the globe we have established an extended network which enables us to work efficiently anywhere in the world. The dynamic and flexible nature of the practice enables us to adapt to future challenges.
